We specialise in helping people in areas such as:

Stress

Stress is a fact of life . However, respected research has shown us that too much unpredictable stress is highly harmful to our mental, emotional and physical well being and health. Stress can lead to depression, chronic anxiety, post traumatic stress disorders and addictive disorders. In addition, chronic stress includes sleep disorders, heart disease, high blood pressure and migraine headaches.

Insomnia & Sleeping Problems

Sleep is critical for our health and survival. Sleep is the time when the body renews and rejuvenates itself. Insomnia is inadequate or poor quality sleep. Insomnia is classified as primary or secondary and by period of time over which symptoms are present.

Anxiety

Everyone occasionally experiences some anxiety. It is a normal response to a stressful
event or perceived threat. Anxiety can range from feeling uneasy and worried to
severe panic.

Phobias

A phobia is an overwhelming and unreasonable fear of an object or situation that poses little real danger. Unlike the brief anxiety most people feel when they give a speech or take a test, a phobia is long-lasting, causes intense physical and psychological distress, and can affect your ability to function normally at work or in social settings.

Depression

The word depression is used to describe various and sometimes overlapping experiences. To many people being depressed means feeling sad, ‘blue’, downhearted, disappointed, detached or upset. However, a person can feel all these emotions without being ‘clinically’ depressed. Feelings of sadness or the ‘blues’ are generally brief and have slight effects on normal functioning.

Grief & Loss

Grief is our response to loss. It is the normal, natural and inevitable response to loss, and it can affect every part of our life, but it is varied and different for different people.

Self Esteem, Shyness & Social Skills

Have you ever been dissatisfied or unhappy with yourself on the whole? Do you ever think that you are weak, stupid, not good enough, flawed in some way, inferior to other people, useless, worthless, unattractive, ugly, unlovable, a loser, or a failure? Everyone uses these words on themselves at times, usually when they experience a challenging or stressful situation. However, if you often think about yourself in these terms, then you might have a problem with low self-esteem.

Communication & Assertiveness

Assertiveness means expressing your point of view in a way that is clear and direct, while still respecting others. Communicating in an assertive manner can help you to minimise conflict, to control anger, to have your needs better met, and to have more positive relationships with friends, family and others.

Life Changes & Adjustment

Work problems, getting married, going away to school, an illness — any number of life changes can cause stress. Most of the time, people adjust to such changes within a few months. But if you continue to feel down or self-destructive, you may have an adjustment disorder.

Parenting

Parenting is one of the most important and difficult things you can do – as well as one of the most rewarding. There is little training in how to raise a child. It is an enormous responsibility which is usually taken for granted.

Anger Management

Anger is a normal human emotion and when it is managed properly it is not a problem. Everyone gets angry, and mild anger can sometimes be useful to express strong feelings and deal with situations. However, if anger is expressed in harmful ways, or persists over a long period of time, then it can lead to problems in relationships at home and at work and can affect the overall quality of your life.

Relationship Problems

Most of us want to find a partner to share our lives with. When we finally fall in love and commit to a relationship that we believe will last us to old age, we have expectations that we will act together to realise our dreams. Inevitably though, every couple will experience relationship difficulties. Couples will always be confronted and sometimes overwhelmed by challenges they face, but mostly they are able to deal with them and move on. However sometimes these challenges leave each partner feeling alienated and alone and unable to sort out the issues, no matter how hard they try.

Ageing Positively

Positive ageing is a term used to describe the process of maintaining a positive attitude, feeling good about yourself, keeping fit and healthy, and engaging fully in life as you age.

Addiction

A drug can be any substance that brings about physical or psychological changes. Drugs include alcohol, tobacco, caffeine, prescription medication, over-the-counter medication and illegal substances.

Quit Smoking

There has been a steady decline in the amount of “smokers “in Australia. However, a proportion of the population continue to abuse tobacco. These people often describe their smoking as “no longer pleasurable “and actually want to quit. They have made numerous attempts and still find they relapse back into the habit.

Studies show that the most effective method of treating nicotine addiction is through a neuropsychopharmacology approach. That is; combining pharmacology, Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT), individual smoking topography, and behavioural therapies. Click here for more information about effective ways to quit smoking.
